City target Trainer signing for new campaign
MIDFIELDER Phil Trainer is among Worcester City’s list of targets as squad-building for the new season continues.
The 33-year-old former Telford and Nuneaton player, who enjoyed a successful spell on loan at City last term, has linked up with the Aggborough club for pre-season training.
He is one of several players in talks with the Blue and Whites although nothing will be finalised until manager Carl Heeley returns from holiday.
Experienced Trainer played five games for City last season, including a stellar display in the 0-0 Conference North draw at Telford last September.
Worcester initially extended the midfielder’s stay from Nuneaton but he was recalled ahead of the FA Cup fourth qualifying round match against Lincoln City.
Trainer was one of five players released by Conference Premier outfit Nuneaton at the end of last season.
“We have got several players we’re talking to who are really interested to add to what we’ve already got,” said assistant Worcester manager Matt Gardiner.
Having re-signed their first-choice back four, and added keeper Nathan Vaughan, City are seeking to bolster their midfield and strike force.
As well as looking at new players, Ethan Moore and Aaron Williams have both been offered new deals and are expected to sign, while fellow forward and top-scorer Daniel Nti also has new terms on the table.
Gardiner added: “If you split the season into two and look at our post-Christmas performances we weren’t far away but it was clear that we needed to add a bit more of an attacking threat into our game.”
