Palmer leaves it late for Robins victory
Updated 10:32am Monday 17th March 2014 in Sport
MARCUS Palmer's injury-time winner got Evesham United back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over bottom-of-the-table Fleet Town in Southern League Division One South and West.
The Robins trailed to Jack White's goal with 15 minutes to go but hit back through substitute Joey Smith before Palmer sealed a first win in four games.
Prior to White's opener, the game was largely forgettable with both sides guilty of giving the ball away and chances were few and far between.
In a low key first-half, Fleet edged possession without testing Louie Barnfather, while Lance Smith and Palmer went close for the hosts.
Fleet stunned the home crowd when White got on the end of a right wing cross to give the Blues a shock 75th-minute lead.
Smith bundled in the equaliser eight minutes later after Fleet failed to clear Richard Mansell's free-kick.
Then, in injury-time, Marcus Jackson broke down the right and crossed to the unmarked Palmer who slotted the winner.
Evesham: Barnfather, Tambling, Wellon, Wilson, Sauntson, Davis (J Smith 72), Holloway (Jackson 54), Brown, L Smith, Palmer, Eyre (Mansell 45). Subs not used: Hitchman, Dovey.
