WORCESTER men, women and children whose lives have been touched by cancer are being invited to play a key role in the Relay for Life event, for Cancer Research UK.

Worcester’s volunteer committee for the charity is calling on people who have survived the disease, and others who are currently under-going treatment, to be guests of honour and lead the emotional and inspirational ‘Lap of Honour’, which marks the start of the overnight fundraising festival.

Lezley Moran, volunteer Chairman of Worcester’s Relay For Life, said: “The Survivors’ Lap of Honour is a crucial part of Relay For Life. It is a moving start to the weekend’s festivities as people of all ages, wearing special provided T-shirts bearing the word ‘Survivor’, step on to the track cheered on by all present.

“The Survivors' Lap allows us to honour everyone who has experienced cancer and celebrate the strides that are being made to beat the disease.”

She added: “Cancer affects so many people every year. Relay For Life is a great way to support them by raising awareness and money to fund Cancer Research UK’s life-saving research. We would love to hear from anyone who wants to take part in the Survivors’ Lap of Honour or who wants to enter a team in Relay For Life. This is a unique event and everyone can play a part.

Cancer Research UK’s Relay For Life is a unique celebration of life and hope.
