CENTURIES of history will be revisited in a day at a Worcestershire stately home next month.

More than 750 re-enactors will perform ten periods of military history as part of the M5 Military Re-enactment at Spetchley Park Gardens, just outside of Worcester.

The event takes place on Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17, and Henry Berkeley, of Spetchley Park Gardens, said the event has something for everyone.

“Spetchley itself is steeped in history and so it is only fitting that we should celebrate history here. There are not many places where you can rub shoulders with Greek hoplites, vikings, Tudors or Civil War surgeons," he said.

"It is not only about watching the battles and drill displays but it is about learning how the soldiers and operated in the field. You can visit authentic tents, try out weaponry and understand how the soldiers would have eaten and socialised. It is a fascinating day.”

The estate has hosted the event, which is organised by the Worcester Re-enactors, for the past five years.

Visitors will get to see authentic tented villages, a Second World War RAF ops room, and a 1940s themed pub serving locally brewed ale. Trade and food stalls will also be available.

This year will see one of the largest collections of Napoleonic re-enactors from both France and England and re-enactments to commemorate centenary of the First World War.

Gates open at 11am on both days and entrance costs £7.50 for adults and £2.50 for children.
